Independence Day celebration at Etra Lake Park

EAST WINDSOR — The winds of independence approach.
For locals, the East Windsor Township Independence Day Celebration is tomorrow, Saturday. It’s a time to celebrate America’s Declaration of Independence from Great Britain, which is celebrated nationally on July 4.
Tomorrow, it’s also a time for residents to gather at Etra Lake Park for a festive night of family entertainment including music and spectacular fireworks.
The celebration begins at 6 p.m.
”Etra Lake Park, with over 160 acres with playgrounds, barbeque grills, walking trails and a wonderful lake, is a tremendously attractive recreational gem in our township,” said Mayor Janice Mironov on June 26 in an e-mail to the Herald. “People should come out and enjoy all the park has to offer on this great evening.”
”Our nation’s Independence Day is a terrific occasion for our residents to join together in celebration and in recognition of our blessings of liberty and freedom in this great nation,” she said.
Of course, what’s an American independence celebration without fireworks?
The fireworks will commence around 9:30 p.m.
”We are grateful to our generous business sponsors who have underwritten and made possible the Independence Day festivities,” said Mayor Mironov.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Jerry Rife’s Rhythm Kings Dixieland Jazz Band and the Trenton Brass Quintet Plus One.
From the Delaware Valley region, the Jerry Rife’s Rhythm Kings Dixieland Jazz Band, a six-piece instrumental group, is best known for its traditional jazz sound, according to a township press lease.
Trenton Brass Quintet Plus One, a six-piece ensemble from Central Jersey, performs at 7:30 p.m. featuring popular Americana melodies, the press release said.
Rain date is Sunday.
The mayor suggests that people come early to avoid possible traffic congestion, especially prior to the fireworks.
”There are several large parking areas within the event area and the township will be directing traffic for parking,” said Mayor Mironov.
Paying tribute to the Etra Lake Pathway created by the township a few years ago, she noted that many Twin Rivers residents could walk to the celebration.
