Hazlet library offers free Chinese language program this summer

HAZLET— If you’ve always wanted to learn how to speak Chinese, the Hazlet Township Library is offering a free sixweek basic program this summer for beginners.

The 90-minute sessions will start at 7 p.m., on Monday, July 11. Subsequent classes will be held at 7 p.m. each Monday through Aug. 15. Registration is required, please call the library at 732-264-7164.

Learn basic Mandarin pronunciations, Chinese characters and phrases and commonly used sentences. Greetings, the calendar, Chinese numbering and telling time will be covered; along with counting money, ordering in a restaurant and more.

The course instructor is Lyndon Pan, an AT&T Bell Labs retiree who teaches chess as a volunteer at the Jersey Shore Chinese School.

The classes are appropriate for anyone ages 12 and over. Students aged 10 and older can attend if accompanied by a parent.
