Mrs. Fortunato, 80, a resident of Little Sliver since 1968, died June 24, 2011, at home. She was a retired registered nurse. Mrs. Fortunato was a communicant of the Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach, and attended the Post Chapel at Fort Monmouth. She was a longtime member of the Monmouth Beach Bath and Tennis Club and volunteered her time as a reading teacher for Holy Trinity School in Long Branch for 20 years. Surviving are her husband of 58 years, former New Jersey Insurance Commissioner Samuel F Fortunato; three sons, Frank X. Fortunato, and his wife, Deanne, of Lambertville, Michael Fortunato and his wife, Lee Ann, of Lutz, Fla., and Richard Fortunato and his wife, Heba, of Scotch Plains; a daughter, Mary Ann Fortunato, and her husband, Victor Bayers, of Ocean; a sister, Elizabeth Koch of Little Silver; four grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. Memorial donations may be made to St. James School, 30 Peters Place, Red Bank, NJ 07701. The Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
