HILLSBOROUGH: Kids have summer fun options at library

   Looking for something to do this summer? The library offers a lot of suggestions for kids and families. To avoid being shut out, call the library to register for most events.
   At 7 tonight, Thursday, in a program called “Mastodons, Cavemen and Bears, Oh My!” for children in grades K-6, families and kids can learn about the Ice Age and the life of cavemen and the unusual animals. An interactive game show, “Are You Smarter Than a Caveman?” will also be played. Register in advance.
   ’Sounds Like Science,’ for ages 3-7 is a 40-minute show that highlights the sense of sound, will be held Monday, July 11, at 4 p.m.
   Here are programs intended for youngsters. Registration is required:
   • Anime Club (grades 8-12) — Hang out with friends as we watch anime, make candy sushi and discuss the latest manga. Thursday, July 14, at 5 p.m.
   • Summer storytime — ‘The Cow Says Moo’ (ages 2-6) will feature animal sounds everywhere. Monday, July 11, at 10 a.m.
   • Singing Babies (newborn to age 2) — Start your little one on the road to a lifetime love of music making. Tuesday, July 12, at 10 a.m.
   • Reading Buddy (grades 2-4) — Children will increase their love of reading while reading aloud with a teen volunteer at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on each of July 18, 19, 20 and 21.
   • Early Reader Book Club (grades K-2) — We will discuss the book, do some activities and make a craft. Tuesday, July 12, at 3 p.m.
   • ’Songs for Playful Children’ (ages 4 and older) — Join Kurt Gallagher and giggle, dance and clap your hands to rhythmic and rockin’ songs. Tuesday, July 12, at 7 p.m.
   • Story and craft — In ‘Water Bottle Maracas’ (ages 2-6), kids will listen to a story and create a craft to take home. Wednesday, July 13, at 10 and 11 a.m.
   • Magic of Amore (grades 6-12) — Amore uses the audience for demonstrations of the mind and body incorporating psychology and parapsychology and challenges the audience to discover the power of their own minds. Wednesday, July 13, at 7 p.m.
   • Lego Club (grades 3-5) — Join us for this new program where we supply the Legos and you supply the creativity. Wednesday, July 13 at 3 p.m.
   • Science for 4’s, 5’s, 6’s — Join us for stories and hands-on activities as you and your child explore science concepts together. Thursday, July 14 at 10 a.m.
   • ’Flight’ — Join us for some hands-on science fun on Thursday, July 14. The program for grades K-2 is at 2 p.m. with one for grades 3-5 at 3 p.m.
   • Teen Crafternoon — Kids in grades 6-12 can bring a white cotton T-shirt and we’ll provide the supplies for you to make your own tie-dye creation. Saturday, July 16, at 11 a.m.
   • Story and Songs (ages 2-6) — It’s an interactive story and musical activities. Monday, July 18, at 10 a.m.
   • Book Club (grades 9-12) — “Talk It Up!” is a book discussion group that focuses on young adult fiction. Monday, July 18, at 5 p.m.
   • Summer storytime (ages 2-6) — ‘Trains, Plains and more!,’ a fun family storytime will be Tuesday, July 19, at 10 a.m.
   • Somerset County Park Commission naturalists present “What Flies in July” for grades 2-4. It’ll be a race to find the most fabulous flying things on Monday, July 18, at 2 p.m.
   • A family show, “Mammal Mania,” for ages 5-14 will feature the rabbit, guinea pig and the Patagonian cavy. Tuesday, July 19, at 7 p.m.
   Another family event, “So You Want a New Pet?,” intended for ages 3-10, is an interactive songfest designed for families and children. It invites children to become music-makers and detectives. Thursday, July 21 at 11 a.m.
   • Story and craft (ages 2-6) — Listen to a story and create a craft to take home. Wednesday, July 20, at 10 and 11 a.m.
   • Cupcake Boss (grades 6-12) — We’ll bring the cupcakes, icing and toppings. You bring the creativity for an incredible edible. Wednesday, July 20, at 5 p.m.
   • Mad Science (grades K-2) — Create your own multi-density wave bottles while learning about water, waves and the environment. Thursday, July 21, at 3 p.m. A program for grades 3-5 will follow starting at 4 p.m.
   On the schedule for adults:
   Computer courses are offered. Introduction to Google Documents, Part 1, will be held Thursday, July 7, at 7 p.m. An Introduction to YouTube, Part 1, will be held Friday, July 8, at 3 p.m. with part two scheduled for Friday, July 15, at 3 p.m.
   In both courses, seating is limited, so registration is required.
   The Friends Book Group will meet Tuesday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m.
   A three-week yoga series will teach meditation in motion, increasing flexibility, strength, energy and relaxation. It starts 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14, and continues July 21 at 7 p.m.
   The classic action movie ‘Sahara’ will be shown Friday, July 15, at 7 p.m. Humphrey Bogart considered it one of his finest films. Nominated for three Academy Awards, “Sahara” follows a mixed group of Allied soldiers trying to escape a German trap in the desert of North Africa. Desperate for water and followed by a vastly superior enemy force that’s just as thirsty, they decide to fight it out, with surprising results.
   An afternoon movie, “No Strings Attached,” a romantic comedy starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher, will be shown Tuesday, July 19, at 1:30 p.m. On Friday, July 22, at 7 p.m. the movie “Lincoln Lawyer, a thriller adapted from a novel and starring Matthew McConaughey, will be offered.
