ROBBINSVILLE: Auction set for two Robbinsville farms

By Joanne Degnan, Managing Editor
ROBBINSVILLE — Six preserved farms owned by Mercer County, including two on Old York Road in Robbinsville that are scheduled to be auctioned later this month, will host open houses on Saturday for interested buyers.
The farms were purchased through the Mercer County Open Space Trust Fund between 2003 and 2009 and have been designated as permanently preserved by the state, ensuring their ongoing use as agricultural fields.
The properties, which range from 13 to 53 acres, will be auctioned at 1 p.m., July 21, by Max Spann Real Estate & Auction Co. at the Mercer County Park Marina, 334, So. Post Road, Princeton Junction. Self-guided tours of all six properties can be taken between noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 9 and Thursday, July 14, according to Max Spann, the president and CEO of the auction company.
The Robbinsville properties include a 29-acre parcel of undeveloped farmland at 1510 Old York Road and 53 preserved acres at 1410 Old York Road.
The Hamilton properties include 13 acres and the circa 1741 Zygmont Farmhouse at 130 Uncle Petes Road; 31 acres of open land across the street from the Zygmont Farmhouse; 32 preserved acres at the corner of Sawmill Road and Old York Road; and 46 acres of grain at 75 Sawmill Road.
”Mercer County took the important step of buying these properties to ensure their long-term agricultural preservation,” Mr. Spann said.
The sale of these preserved farms to private owners will enable the properties to be put back on the tax rolls where they will generate tax revenue for local governments, Mr. Spann said.
”I encourage anyone who is curious to take our farm tour, choose their favorite and then come out on July 21 to bid,” Mr. Spann said.
