Genealogy series coming to library

The Sayreville Public Library, Washington Road, will offer a program titled “Tending the Roots of Your Family Tree: A Four-Part Series to Jumpstart Your Genealogical Research” July 19, 26, Aug. 16 and 23.

Patrons are welcome to attend all four parts or to pick and choose the session they would like to attend.

The first three programs will be presented by Nancy C. Nelson and Carol M. Sheaffer, members of numerous genealogical and historical societies in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

“Genealogy … Get Ready, Get Set, Get Going!” is set for 6:30 p.m. July 19.

“Wherever Did I Put It?,” planned for 6:30 p.m. July 26, will focus on the methods for and benefits of organizing genealogical data.

“Genealogy Research Tools: High Tech/Low Tech,” set for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16, will detail examples of high- and low-tech tools used in genealogical research to locate information, develop research plans and organize and preserve data.

“Back To Adam: An Introduction to Genetic Genealogy,” planned for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 23, will explore using DNA testing for genetic genealogy and anthropology. Walter Choroszewski, a former science educator, photographer and graphic designer, will help unravel the acronyms, terminology and data associated with DNA. Choroszewski will review companies offering DNA testing and teach program participants how they can use the DNA tool as a complement to traditional genealogical research.
