Wall Stadium will celebrate the stock car racing stars of today and the champions of seasons past on July 9 as it presents “Salute the Champions Night.” More than 50 past champions from as far back as 1957 will be on hand to great fans, sign autographs and relive cherished racing memories. The past champions will be introduced at 6:45 p.m., and racing will start immediately thereafter. Expected to lead the gathering of past champions are the speedway’s only eight-time driving kings, Gil Hearne of New Egypt, Manahawkin’s Dave Michel and defending Modified champion Chas Okerson of Freehold. Every stock car division that has competed at the oval will be represented. The Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club has worked hard to help put this event together, with great effort put forth by president and former driving champion Ray Shea of Brick Township. After being added to the night’s agenda, the open wheel Modifieds will lead the way in a 40-lap main event. In addition to the Modifieds, the Blewett Recycling Sportsman cars will be in the spotlight with “Twin 25” lap main events on the schedule. The United Crane Factory Stocks, the INEX Legend Cars and the Street Stocks will also each compete in a 25-lap main event.
