‘The King’s Speech’ to open film festival

The Summer International Film Festival at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center, will begin on July 12 with 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. screenings of “The King’s Speech,” the 2010 film from the United Kingdom starring Academy-Award winner Colin Firth.

The R-rated film tells the story of King George VI and his struggles to overcome a debilitating stutter with the help of an unconventional speech therapist.

Admission is free of charge. Reservations are not required.

Remaining festival films are:

 “White Wedding,” a PG-13-rated 2009 comedy from South Africa, July 19;

 “Mademoiselle Chambon,” not rated, a 2009 drama from France, July 26;

 “Mao’s Last Dancer,” a PG-rated 2009 film based on a true story, from Australia, Aug. 2;

 “TheWay Home,” a PG-rated 2002 drama from South Korea, Aug. 9;

 “The Concert,” a PG-rated 2009 comedy from France and Russia, Aug. 16.
