The South Brunswick Vikings 10u Black traveled out to Aberdeen, Maryland to participate in the 2011 Cal Ripken High Heat Tournament.
The boys traveled to Cal Sr Field where the Ripken World Series is played each year.
The Academy is complete with numerous batting cages, two field turf training areas, and many other amenities that make it a tournament destination for teams across the nation.
The tournament featured 14 teams in four different states.
In the first game the Vikings beat the Catonsville Cubs 11-1with a fifth inning mercy rule. The boys also held the Cubs to only four hits and threw out the runner at first from right field for the third out of the inning.
Three hours later the boys were playing at a replica of Fenway Park where they faced LUYAA Lightning, a home team from Maryland. The boys came out early scoring two runs in the first inning and never gave up through the next five innings of the game. The Vikings came out victorious once again 6-3 holding the Lightning to just five hits and eight strikeouts.
The next day the Vikings faced the Lakeshore Graysox from Pasadena, Maryland. The boys came out swinging and not backing away from the Graysox. The game was a continuous battle where the boys never gave up inning after inning.
In the 5th inning the boys turned a beautiful double play to get things fired up but unfortunately came up short losing to the Graysox 4-1.
"As I told the boys they all should be proud of their accomplishments and the memories they made!" said Andrew Goldsmith coach of the Vikings.."These kids are a special group of baseball players that have gained a tremendous amount of experience for being 10 years old".
