Spotswood Chargers 14U team takes Central Jersey spring title

The Spotswood Chargers 14U travel baseball team captured their second Central Jersey Travel Baseball League championship by beating the South Brunswick Vikings 12-4 on June 19.

As they did throughout the regular season, the Chargers continued to pound the baseball. They hit .467 as a team and averaged 9.91 runs per game in the regular season. That continued in the championship as they banged out a season high 17 hits. The pitching was stellar as well. The staff combined for a team ERA of 2.37 during the season. After an unusual shaky first inning, giving up three of the four runs, the team settled down. They got back into their groove, only allowing one run and one hit, while striking out nine over the final six innings. With the victory, the Chargers completed a perfect 11-0 travel season.

Over the last six years, the team has amassed an overall record of 81-34-1 (.698). It has been very successful in tournament play, competing in eight championship games and taking home the trophy five times. This championship game was the last time these boys would take the field as a team. Next season, they will focus on playing high school baseball and excelling at the next level.
