PLUMSTED — A female resident of Plumsted is beginning her fourth month behind bars as she awaits the presentation of charges against her to an Ocean County Grand Jury.

Michael Mohel, deputy chief of detectives in the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, told the Tri-Town News on July 5 that Leta Huitron, 28, of Plumsted, remains incarcerated in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, in default of $75,000 bail.

Huitron was jailed in March after she was charged with two counts of sexual assault on a minor.

In a press release that was issued on March 31, Plumsted police said that on March 22, the department investigated an alleged sexual assault involving two minors.

Patrolman Brant Uricks met with the mother of the alleged victims. Police said the woman claimed that her 16-year-old sons had a sexual relationship with Huitron over a period of time.

Upon further investigation, Uricks contacted Detective John Murphy of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

Police said it was determined that the assaults occurred when the boys were 15 years old and that they took place in Point Pleasant Beach.

As a result of the investigation, Uricks signed complaints against Huitron for two counts of sexual assault of a minor and endangering the welfare of a child.

Additional complaints against Huitron were signed by Detective Pat Petruzziello of the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department charging her with sexual assault with a minor.

Police told the Tri-Town News on March 31 this was the only information that could be released about the case at that time. The dates of the alleged assaults, the town in which the boys live, Huitron’s occupation and the circumstances surrounding how she and the boys allegedly got to or met in Point Pleasant were not disclosed.

Mohel reiterated on July 5 that no additional information regarding this case can be released to the public at this time. He said Huitron remains in the county jail and said the case is pending presentation to the grand jury.
