HILLSBOROUGH: Senior citizens’ calendar for week of July 21

CHAPTER A
Chapter A meets the first Thursday of the month in the municipal complex. We are open to new members.
”Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang” was a great production. Eat your heart out, Broadway! A first-class production — how did they get that car to fly?
The speaker from Provident Bank was interesting and he offered some good information. There was no talking or squirming when he had the mike. There is always something new to learn.
Car players alert: We offer three different games on three different days. Come and cool off and play cards on Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m., or canasta on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and mah jong on Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring a snack if you come to play mah jong. This is a very dedicated group.
   Events coming up:
   • Friday, Aug. 12 — Monmouth Race Track. Cost is $70 for admission and a grand dinner at Basile’s. This fills up quickly but there might be a waiting list.
   • Sunday, Aug. 14 — Annual picnic at Falcons camp from noon to 4 p.m. Cost of $15 is refunded on arrival. There will be games between the two seatings, rain or shine.
   • Sept. 15-19 — Boston and historical environs we have not been to before. Cost is $440 double occupancy, add $135 for single occupancy. This is a bargain price.
’• Oct. 6 meeting — We have been asked to have another “dollar store” so look around and see what you have that you are no longer using. You can bring donations to earlier meetings. We have a closet to store things.
   • Oct. 13 — Ehrhardt’s Oktoberfest at Hawley, Pa. Cost is $65. We depart from Pathmark lot at 8:30 a.m.
We’ll go to Atlantic City on Aug.1, the first Monday of the month. The bus departs from the Pathmark lot at 9 a.m. and all are welcome. Call Jo for details at 908-359-6418.

CHAPTER B
Our annual ice cream social took place July 14. Everyone had a great time creating their own sundae.
This annual event has been taking place for quite a number of years. One of our longtime members, John Grabowski, has been the instrument behind this event. For years he has been responsible for all the delicious ice cream flavors — he knows what people like and he makes sure we have them. So, John, we thank you for all your efforts and can’t wait until next year to participate again.
Money for the cost of the ice cream and trimmings came from Diane Schilke and her husband. Both are realtors with Re/Max and specialize in helping seniors sell or buy homes in the area. We thank them for all they have done for the seniors. Vice President Irene Williams officiated at the meeting. Nancy and Ed are taking a much-needed vacation.
Our annual picnic on Aug. 11 at the Polish Falcon Hall will take the place of our August meeting. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. Lots of good food for your enjoyment and, of course, we can’t have our picnic without some bingo.
Tickets for a one-day trip to Mt. Airy Lodge scheduled for Oct. 5 were sold at our July meeting. This trip was sold out within a half-hour. We also have a long waiting list. The trip includes bus, $35 coin return and a comedy show called “Sex, Please — We’re Sixty.”
Tickets were sold for a trip on Friday, Sept. 16, to the famous Green Dragon Farmers & Flea Market in Lancaster, Pa. This market is the largest indoor and outdoor market on the East Coast. We top off the day with a trip to the famous Miller’s Restaurant (also in Lancaster) for a delicious lunch before heading home. Cost for this trip is $55. More than 30 people have signed up. Tickets are still available. Call Virginia Hutson at 908-874-7094 if interested.
Trips for 2012 are being planned by our trip committee. It has been working very hard to come up with new places to visit and have included many day trips and several overnight or longer trips. The committee is very excited with their selections and think you will be also.
The list of trips for 2012 will be handed at the September meeting and we will start taking reservations for some of the trips in November.
