Wakefern Food Corp. announced that Adam Anton of Jackson and Chava Kranczer of Lakewood are recipients of the Wakefern-ShopRite Scholarship offered by the Wakefern-ShopRite Scholarship program. The award gives Adam and Chava $2,000 each for their undergraduate studies.
Adam will be a junior at Rutgers University, where he is pursuing a degree in sports management. He graduated from Jackson Liberty High School, where he was the captain of the golf team and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
Chava will be a sophomore at Ocean County College, where she is studying nursing. She graduated from Bais Kaila High School in Lakewood and participates in charity work.

Caregiver Volunteers of Central Jersey received a $2,500 donation from the Lakewood Co-generation Plant, distinguishing it as a “friend partner” in CVCJ’s Partners in Caring program. Partners in Caring is a way for local businesses to support the mission of CVCJ to help the frail elderly homebound in Ocean County remain independent. The Cogen plant has been a longtime supporter and sponsor of CVCJ events. The Lakewood facility joins the first business of the program, Manchester Township’s Novy & Associates LLC. Lakewood business owners can now apply to become Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) businesses by registering online at www. nj. gov/njbusiness/financing/geographic/ uez_ program.shtml. The new online certification process began July 1 and is being promoted by the UEZ in order to streamline the certification process and make the program more business friendly.
Once online, visitors can fill out an application. Business owners can still file to become a UEZ business in person at the UEZ offices on the second floor at 231 Third St. in Lakewood, or have an application mailed to them. Lakewood UEZ officials are always available to help applicants and answer questions.

Verizon Wireless recently donated $2,000 to the Lakewood Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 71 Officer Benefit Fund at the inaugural Holding Onto Hope fundraiser, held at the Headliner in Neptune, in memory of slain Lakewood Patrolman Chris Matlosz. Proceeds from the event benefit Holding Onto Hope, which benefits local children through scholarships, recreational programs and funding for the Lakewood DARE program.
Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, and Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood, recently dedicated a facility that offers western Monmouth County residents convenient access to Monmouth Medical Center’s Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center. Monmouth joined its sister hospital, Kimball Medical Center, to celebrate the dedication of the Jacqueline M. The annual OceanFirst Bank calendar contest is under way, and photographers are invited to submit original local photographs to be displayed in the bank’s 2012 community calendar.
More than 12,000 calendars will be distributed to OceanFirst customers and the general public throughout Ocean, Monmouth and Middlesex counties. Recognition will be awarded to each photographer featured in the calendar, along with a small byline that includes artist information.
Suggested themes include seasonal scenes of familiar local landmarks, beaches, oceans or lakes in Ocean, Monmouth and Middlesex counties. Photos will be judged on composition, quality and suitability.
Photographers can submit their original work via mail to OceanFirst Bank, Marketing Department/Calendar Contest, 975 Hooper Ave., Toms River, NJ 08753, on disk or dropped off.
