Dr. Riordan, 85, of Red Bank and formerly of Rumson, died July 10, 2011, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. A veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, he went on to graduate from MIT and earn a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Chicago. Dr. Riordan had a 33-year career with Bell Laboratories as a communications engineer. In the 1990s he was a member and president of the Board of Education for the Rumson-Fair Haven School District. He was predeceased by a brother, John Riordan; three brothers-in-law, Terry and his wife, Mary, Quentin and his wife, Frances Fennessy, and James McGill; and two sisters-in-law, Peggy and her husband, Cesar Guzmán, and Sheila Burke. Dr. Riordan is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marion Fennessy Riordan; five sons, John, Christopher, Liam, Dan and his wife, Lynn, and Patrick and his wife, Grace; two sisters, Mary and her husband, Tom O’Brien, and Joyce Riordan; a brother, George and his wife, Gerry; two sisters-in-law, Kathleen McGill and Helen and her husband, Ray Cavanaugh; two brothers in-law, Eamon and his wife, Mary Louise Fennessy, and Bill Burke; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Rumson. Interment followed at Holmdel Cemetery Mausoleum, Holmdel. Arrangements were by the Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank.
