Local musician to release third solo CD on Aug. 6

STEVE STANGER Don Lee, a longtime resident of Freehold Township, will soon release his third solo CD, “Fool to Even Care.” The CD is expected to be released during the week ofAug. 1, and Lee will support its release with appearances at the Downtown Gazebo, 10 E. Main St., Freehold Borough.

Lee, who is a graduate of Freehold High School, Freehold Borough, has been performing for about 30 years and said he plays a mix of pop rock and soul.

“I love playing the Freehold gazebo because a wide variety of people are downtown every night and stop by, as well as the variety in age groups,” Lee told the News Transcript. “It’s also great because the crowd gets very enthusiastic.”

Lee said his musical influences include The Beatles, Squeeze, Steely Dan, Tears for Fears, Billy Joel and Joe Jackson. During the fall, one of the places Lee plays is Café 360, also on East Main Street in Freehold Borough. He said he plays primarily in coffeehouses, but he also performs in area bars. Lee has appeared at Green Planet, a coffeehouse in Point Pleasant.

When he is not rocking out, Lee works for the Monmouth County Division of Social Services.

Since 2009 the Freehold Center Partnership has been sponsoring free concerts at the gazebo in Downtown Freehold.

Lee is set to perform at the gazebo on the evenings of July 30, Aug. 6 (CD release party) Aug. 12 and Aug. 20. More shows are scheduled in September and October.

In March, Lee was named Best Rock- Pop-Blues Act at this year’s Jersey Acoustic Music awards in Asbury Park.
