FLORENCE: Board hires special services director, principal

   FLORENCE — The Board of Education unanimously approved a new director of special services and principal for the Roebling Elementary School on Monday night.
   Francis Birney will be the new director of special services, taking the place of Donna Ambrosius, who is the new superintendent. The contract is effective Aug. 1 for an annual salary of $87,360.
   Daniel Dooley is the assistant principal of the Riverfront School and is being promoted to principal of Roebling Elementary School. The contract also is effective Aug. 1 for an annual salary of $87,360.
   Ms. Ambrosius also made the board aware of a letter received from the state Department of Education that has identified Roebling’s Child Study Team as meeting the requirements in regard to special education.
   The Riverfront Curriculum Committee also has received a third-year renewal math grant for $25,000 for next year.
   The board approved the district’s participation in the Burlington County Inclusion Program for $2,147.50. The program is used to share ideas and provide a variety of training, support services and professional development for administrators.
   ”The project will continue to offer an avenue to maximize resources and coordinate county-wide workshops in addition to individual district offerings through the use of inclusion hours,” according to the resolution.
   The district also recently received extra state aid in the amount of $238,325 earlier this month. According to Business Administrator Bruce Benedetti, the money will not be included in this year’s budget. The money will be included in next year’s budget.
