Woman, 30, dies in Monroe crash

MONROE — A 30-year-old Iselin woman died July 25 after sustaining injuries in a three-car accident on Spotswood-Englishtown Road.

Christina H. Bettinger was pronounced dead after being transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick following the 4:40 p.m. accident, according to Monroe police.

The accident initially involved two other vehicles, police said.

William E. Grischuk, 18, of Millstone, was driving a 2001 Ford F250 northbound on Spotswood-Englishtown Road when it struck the rear of a 2005 Nissan Altima that was stopped in the northbound lane, waiting to turn left onto Norma Street, according to police. The Altima was being driven by Suzanne A. Dorflaufer, 64, of Monroe.

After the initial impact of that crash, Grischuk’s vehicle crossed over the double yellow line into the southbound lane of Spotswood-Englishtown Road, striking Bettinger’s vehicle, which was traveling south, police said.

Bettinger was pronounced dead at 5:39 p.m., about an hour after the accident.

Neither Grischuk nor Dorflaufer was injured, according to police.

The accident is being investigated by the Monroe Township Police Traffic Safety Unit. Police asked that anyone who may have witnessed the accident contact Officer Sergeis Jangols at 732-521-0222, ext. 260.
