Capital Health Medical Center n Hopewell to Open November 6

By D MacNeill
TRENTON, NJ—The Capital Health Board of Directors today announced Sunday, November 6 as the opening date of the healthcare system’s brand new Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell. The date will also mark the transition of Capital Health – Mercer from an acute care hospital to a Satellite Emergency Department.
“Over the past decade since the merging of our two hospitals, Capital Health has remained focused on a vision of bringing an advanced level of medical care to this region. In more recent years, we’ve worked hard to realize this vision for our patients, and today, I’m honored to be able to share this important landmark date in our organization’s history,” said Samuel J. Plumeri, Jr., chairman of the Capital Health Board of Directors.
“Traditionally, patients requiring very specialized care have found it necessary to travel to major cities such as Philadelphia and New York. Our goal, through the recruitment of physicians who are at the forefront of their fields and the use of the most cutting edge technology and treatments, has been to bring that care right to the doorstep of our patients,” said Plumeri.
“Years of planning and research have gone into this day,” said Al Maghazehe, president and CEO, Capital Health. “On behalf of our employees and physicians, I’m excited for residents who live in our surrounding communities to experience our new hospital, which will transform the conventional hospital experience through innovative amenities, design and most of all, outstanding delivery of highly sophisticated medical services.”
“I know I speak for my medical staff colleagues when I say that we are eagerly awaiting November 6 for the opening of the area’s newest hospital and the move of the Regional Perinatal Center to brand new quarters at Capital Health Regional Medical Center. It’s important to note that these milestones represent not only the opening of new facilities, but the transformation that Capital Health has undergone to become a truly regional healthcare system,” said Dr. Marc S. Whitman, president, Capital Health Medical Staff.
The new Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell will feature advanced medical services in a non-traditional hospital setting that incorporates patient-friendly design with unique, environmentally conscious features. Amenities such as an on-site spa, coffee kiosk, cyber café, bistro and boutique gift shops will be combined with high level, specialized medical services such as neurosciences, digestive health, advanced orthopedic services, cancer, CyberKnife® radiosurgery, daVinci® robotic surgery, reconstructive surgery, and specialized pediatric emergency care.
“We have rethought everything about the typical patient hospital experience. Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell was specifically designed to create an environment that promotes healing, reduces anxiety and delivers advanced medical care in a calming, comforting setting,” said Maghazehe.
The new hospital and attached medical office building will feature environmentally friendly design based on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating SystemTM (LEED). These features include roof gardens that recycle rainwater, technologies that reduce heating and cooling requirements and patient rooms with ample sunlight and beautiful views.
On November 6, patients from Capital Health – Mercer will be transferred by   ambulances to Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell. On that day, Mercer will cease to admit inpatients and will provide urgent and emergency services at its Satellite Emergency Department (SED). In addition to the SED, Capital Health – Mercer will house a wide variety of administrative offices, including Human Resources, Clinical and Community Education and offices of the county-wide Mobile Intensive Care Unit.
