CRANBURY: New pizza shop finally gets OK

CRANBURY — After six years, the wait is finally over for three brothers, Joe, Adam and Danny Perovic: The Cranbury Planning Board gave the OK July 21 for construction of their proposed pizza place.
The new pizza place, The Italian Touch, should be opening its doors in October or November.
”It’s finally coming. (It will be) behind Enterprise Rent-A-Car (on Route 130). I hope more new businesses come,” said Mayor Win Cody at the Township Committee meeting July 25.
The brothers have a sign with red letters that says “pizza and pasta coming soon” at the future location of their restaurant, which is, for now, a little house in the middle of Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Head to Tail — a place for dogs and cats on South River Road and Route 130.
The Perovics had to redo the sewer system and now would like to redo the building to make it stand out more for the public to see.
”It was approved a long time ago. It took this long for all the planning and for all these approvals,” said Adam Perovic. “We are just doing cosmetic parts to it.”
They had the property for 10 years, and the building has been vacant for a while, he said.
”I did not realize how much stuff was involved,” Adam Perovic said.
At the meeting, it was revealed there will be a sign with a thick box light that shines from behind the building, but other than that, the building will have a character similar to that of Cranbury. The restaurant design will not take away the architectural value of the building, the brothers explained.
The board thought there should be more windows. The Perovics had other designs they would settle for if the board did not like their preferred plans, but they got approval to try the design they want.
The design was tricky because they wanted to keep the modest Colonial style of the house while also making it stand out for business purposes, the brothers explained.
”We need to change for success,” Joe said. “(Otherwise) we will blend in, and no one would see us.”
