EAST WINDSOR: Road repairs slated for Twin Rivers Drive

By Heather Niccoli, Special Writer
EAST WINDSOR — Road improvements are slated for Twin Rivers Drive starting Monday, Aug.1.
”Twin Rivers Drive, home to elementary schools, bus shelters and Twin Rivers recreational facilities, is an important and much used municipal roadway, which is deteriorated and in need of improvements,” Mayor Janice Mironov said.
The project is estimated to take up to 30 business days to be completed.
Work on Twin Rivers Drive will be done from Jamestown Road to Evanston Drive. East Windsor received a $250,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for the improvements.
”(This project) is important in our efforts to undertake needed local roadway improvements in East Windsor,” Mayor Mironov said. “This project is a continuation of recent grant-funded roadway improvements done to perimeter roadways in Twin Rivers, including Twin Rivers Drive north from Probasco Road to Jamestown Road, Twin Rivers Drive from Milford Road to Evanston Drive and the entire length of Abbington Drive.”
The township has chosen S. Brothers Inc. as the contractor for the project.
The company will repair handicap ramps, curbs and driveway aprons, according to a township press release.
Around the end of the summer, the entire road will be milled and resurfaced.
There will be no parking allowed on both sides of the roads during the construction project.
Delays are anticipated at times due to periods of alternating one-way traffic during construction work. The road is slated to be open to two-way traffic weekdays by 5 p.m. and weekends.
In other news, the Township Council unanimously approved the borrowing of $1,308,100 for various capital improvements at Tuesday’s regular scheduled meeting.
”The included projects were items, which we believed were important to advance at this time,” said Mayor Mironov on Thursday. “Generally, the capital ordinance was for roadway improvements and needed equipment for the fire companies, rescue squads and Police Department.”
The council still will need to vote to authorize the purchase and expenditure of any of these projects. Bids and proposals for these projects have not yet been authorized.
The council did approve the purchase of bituminous material and stone from Trap Rock Industries Inc.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the council discussed a possible future solar power supply contract for the East Windsor Township Police Department and Municipal Court building on One Mile Road.
”I will urge us to move forward to save money for the township,” Councilman Peter Yeager said.
“If we can do it at the end of the year, that would be amazing,” Councilman Marc Lipman said.    ”It’s good to get a good start at this,” Councilman Alan Rosenberg said.     “(It’s) an exciting idea for the township,” Councilman Lipman said.
“There will be no final decision tonight,” Mayor Mironov said.
