Press Release: Local Orchestra Seeks New Members after Immense Growth Spurt!
The Somerset Valley Orchestra is ready to begin rehearsing for its 2011-2012 season on September 8th. This community orchestra has nearly tripled in size since January under the baton of conductor Larry Markiewicz, and is seeking new members who are looking to share some great music making. Some of the musical highlights for the upcoming year include Beethoven’s Symphony #1 and Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture.
Members of the orchestra come from all walks of life: students in high school and college, retirees, and everything in between! All of the instrumentalists are united by a love for ensemble playing, and a desire to find a musical outlet for playing one night a week. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Bridgewater-Raritan High School.
The orchestra is particularly in need of viola, cello and bass players. The winds/percussion section only has current openings in the trumpets, double reeds, and percussion sections. While we do not audition, we are looking for people who have a background in ensemble playing and who are looking to start up with a group again or find an additional ensemble to join!
For more information, please check out the orchestra’s website at www.somersetvalleyorchestra.com or call Bobbi at (908) 526-8769.
