SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Noon Saturday police advisory on Irene

HURRICANE IRENE ADVISORY 12PM SATURDAY

This is the noon advisory from the South Brunswick Office of Emergency Management.
FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON EDT TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING…
* HEAVY AND POSSIBLY RECORD SETTING RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER THE WEEKEND MAY RESULT IN MAJOR FLOODING IN NEW JERSEY. FORECAST RAINFALL AMOUNTS RANGE FROM ABOUT 6 TO 10 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.
AS HURRICANE IRENE APPROACHES… SUSTAINED TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO BEGIN EARLY THIS EVENING. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE FORECAST TO BE IN THE 45 TO 65 MPH RANGE WITH GUSTS TO 80 MPH.
PSE&G is advising residents to prepare for potentially long power outages as Hurricane Irene approaches. PSE&G advises that "full power restoration" for everyone could take between one and three weeks.

* South Brunswick Public Library – CLOSED SUNDAY
* South Brunswick Senior Center – CLOSE MONDAY
At this time there is no shelter set up. As the conditions present shelters may be established.
The travel advisory has been moved up to 8pm. OEM is requesting residents to limit any travel as the storm hits our area.
