Maria de Lourdes Cubina, D.O., has been elected to the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey (VNACJ) board of trustees. The VNACJ board of trustees oversees the governance and management for the organization in its role as the largest nonprofit community health provider of inhome and community-based care for residents throughout New Jersey.

Cubina is a board-certified anesthesiologist with New Jersey Ambulatory Anesthesia Consultants in Freehold.

Prior positions include director of anesthesia at the Central Jersey Surgery Center, attending pediatric anesthesiologist for West Jersey Anesthesia Associates, and attending pain management cardiac anesthesiologist for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Cubina is a recognized author and presenter on topics concerning pediatric pain management. Cubina is a resident of Freehold.

Evangeline Gomez of Marlboro has been named as one of the New Jersey Law Journal’s 2011 “40 Under 40,” which recognizes the top 40 attorneys in New Jersey under 40 years of age. Gomez is counsel to the New Jersey-based law firm Fahy Choi LLC. She concentrates her practice in the areas of family law, representing clients in divorce, child custody disputes and pre-nuptial agreements, as well as representing small businesses and nonprofit organizations in transactional and litigation matters. Gomez is the youngest woman serving on the board of trustees of Rutgers University, where she is active on the audit, legal and nominating committees. Gomez graduated from Ohio State University with a B.A. in political science and earned a law degree from Rutgers School of Law-Newark.

The Colts Neck Business Association (CNBA) has announced the inception of a new logo and slogan to promote business in town. After reviewing hundreds of possible slogans, the CNBA Economic Development Committee members agreed upon “Enjoy the Experience.”

The team worked hard, according to Don Norkus, who chaired the committee which consisted of CNBA members Art Becker, William McDonald, Janet Giunco, Glen J. Dalakian, Richard Yaeger, Sal Barbagallo and Tom Orgo.

CNBAmembers will be doing their part to get the word out about the new slogan and said they look forward to the involvement and support of the schools, township government, publications, businesses, community organizations and others as they proudly display Colts Neck – “Enjoy the Experience.”

The CNBA meets the second Wednesday of every month from 8-9 a.m. at the Colts Neck Library.

Tasti D-Lite, a lower-calorie frozen dessert chain, recently opened in Morganville at 4026 Route 9 south, off Texas Road in the CVS shopping center. Manalapan residents Debbie and Mike Schreiber are the owners of the new center. With Tasti D-Lite, health-conscious individuals can choose from more than 100 flavors of the frozen dessert that is made with natural ingredients, including real dairy, contains no artificial sweeteners and is lower in calories, carbs and sugar than ice cream and leading frozen yogurt brands, according to the company. Stewart’s Restaurant in the Marlboro Shopping Center at the corner of Route 79 and Route 520, Marlboro, will host a Labor Day Hamburger Slider Eating Contest on Sept. 5 at noon. The winner will be judged by how many sliders he or she can eat in 10 minutes. The winner will receive a $250 cash prize and have their name engraved on a champions trophy and their photo on the store’s “Mug on a Mug Wall of Fame.” Entry fee is $10. The Howell Chamber of Commerce will present its second annual PAL Golf Outing from noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Battleground Country Club, Manalapan. All are welcome for a day of golfing, networking and socializing while raising money for the Howell PAL and the Howell Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation. Both organizations offer assistance to community youths. The cost is $195 per person or $780 per foursome golfing. Enjoy music and participating in a gift auction, which will feature many valuable prizes. Non-golfers can make a reservation to attend a cocktail hour and dinner. The Howell Chamber of Commerce will host a Lunch and Learn meeting about Internet safety from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 8 at Nonno’s Pizza, 4118 Route 9 south, Howell. All are invited for networking and for an informative presentation, “Internet Safety, What we Need to Know to Protect Our Children,” by Sabrina Ramos of Zamzu. Starbucks has partnered with Sylvia’s Children to help raise funds for children in Africa. Sylvia’s Children is conducting a clothing drive at 11 Starbucks locations in New Jersey through Nov. 13. Participating locations are in Middletown, Marlboro, Matawan, Manalapan, Edison, Union, Westfield, East Brunswick, New Brunswick, North Brunswick, and Piscataway.

Items being accepted for the drive include all types of usable and wearable clothing for all seasons, shoes, handbags, belts, small hard and soft toys, including Beanie Babies, stuffed animals, and rag dolls; linens, draperies, comforters and small rugs.

Funds raised from the clothing drive will be used to finance a health clinic for children at the Mbiriizi Advanced Primary and Day Care School in Mbiriizi, Uganda. Since April 2010 when Sylvia’s Children started partnering with Starbucks, they have raised more than $11,000.
