The Somerset Patriots will host a special 9-11 tribute on Sunday, Sept. 11, before their scheduled 1:35 p.m. doubleheader against the York Revolution at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater.
The 9-11 tribute will include a program to recognize first responders, EMTs, firefighters, police officers and troops serving overseas to defend our nation.
The Patriots will provide complimentary tickets to the first responders, EMTs, firefighters, police officers, troops and their families.
“”There will be an American flag display outside the ballpark to honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, as well as a large American flag spread out over the infield during the National Anthem. All fans in attendance will receive American flags.
The Patriots will have special video tributes during the program and speeches by local elected officials, community leaders and Patriots representatives.
All first responders, EMTs, firefighters, police officers, military families and Scout groups that would like to participate in the event and receive complimentary tickets should stop by the Patriots ticket office at TD Bank Ballpark or call 908-252-0700.
Those participating in the pre-game ceremony should arrive by 12:30 p.m.
The doubleheader consists of two seven-inning games due to a rainout from the Aug. 14th Patriots game.
The Patriots have teamed up with the New Jersey State Society of Auctioneers to host a special auction between the two games that will serve as a fundraiser for Operation Shoebox New Jersey.
Operation Shoebox New Jersey is an all-volunteer grass roots organization dedicated to collecting donated supplies and shipping care packages to U.S. troops based in Iraq, Afghanistan and other Middle East countries.
”’”“’——’”Among the highlights will be a Somerset Patriots Experience package, which includes a hospitality suite for 30 people, a ceremonial first pitch prior to a game, a chance to be on the field and in the dugout as honorary bat boy or bat girl and a pre-game “meet and greet” with Patriots manager Sparky Lyle and players.
The auction will also feature works by sports artist and Flemington resident James Fiorentino.
Fiorentino has donated several limited edition portraits of sports heroes, including Mickey Mantle, Bernie Williams, Derek Jeter and a collage of 1999 New York Mets.
