St. David’s Church to hold open house

CRANBURY — St. David’s Episcopal Church, 90 South Main Street, is hosting an open house for members of the community to tour the new building addition from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10.
The tour will mark the completion of construction of the building expansion, a press release said.
Starting as a mission church holding services at Peddie Chapel, in Hightstown, St. David’s became part of the Cranbury community in 1973 when it bought 5.8 acres of land along the road then known the “Hightstown Road” or the “Bordentown Amboy Turnpike,” now Cranbury’s South Main Street. The original groundbreaking ceremony took place on June 21, 1981.
By 2009, the press release continued, as it became apparent that the church had outgrown its building, plans were laid for expansion to include Fellowship Hall, kitchen, storage facilities, conference room and Library, classrooms, choir, sacristy and acolyte rooms, and new lighting in the sanctuary. Groundbreaking for the new addition took place on June 27, 2010.
The open house coincides with a flea market fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church hall, and the Youth Group’s Car Wash from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. in the parking lot.
