To the editor:
I want to point out some errors in your Sept. 6 issue. The headline on the front page “Eight week seminar to aid cancer survivors” is inaccurate. Since the program is being held at the Breast Cancer Resource Center, the seminar is open to breast cancer survivors only. The BCRC has a longstanding policy of not allowing survivors of other cancers to attend their programs. For survivors of other cancers to be interested by your headline, only to find out that the program you mention is not available to them seems disappointing.
The same inaccuracy is in the last paragraph of the article on page 8A. You write “Gail will run an eight-week seminar for cancer survivors at the Breast Cancer Research Center,” but the truth is that the seminar is only for breast cancer survivors. I did get confirmation from Ms. Tyrell that she does run her foundation and her seminar for survivors of all cancers, which is admirable. However, the BCRC will only allow breast cancer survivors to attend its programs.
I think these distinctions are important and also necessary for an accurate representation of the program and of the BCRC.
