A mericans of all ages, races and religions joined together on Sept. 11 at memorial services that marked the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on America.
A national memorial was opened at the site of the destroyed World Trade Center in lower Manhattan.
Solemn events were also held at the Pentagon where a plane struck the heart of the U.S. military and in Pennsylvania where Flight 93 was brought down by passengers who fought back against the terrorists.
Ceremonies that were held in municipalities throughout Monmouth County honored the hundreds of area residents who were killed on that day a decade ago.
