The on-again, off-again public hearing on Liberty Towers LLC’s application to build a cell tower at the Trenton Farmers Market tops the Planning Board’s agenda Monday night.
The Planning Board will listen to more testimony from the applicant at the meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. It will be held in the lower level conference room at the Municipal Building.
The public hearing on the application began in February, but subsequent meetings were postponed because of outstanding issues that the applicant had not been able to answer. Those questions include the height of the tower and whether there is an existing tower nearby that would be suitable.
Liberty Towers LLC is seeking minor site plan approval and a conditional use permit to build a 150-foot-tall tower on an unused portion of the Trenton Farmers Market property, near the Princeton Avenue entrance. A cell tower is permitted as a conditional use in the Highway Commercial zone.
The tower would be constructed on land behind businesses, such as Dunkin’ Donuts, that have frontage on Princeton Avenue. The Trenton Farmers Market has frontage on Spruce Street and Princeton Avenue.
There would be room for up to six antennas on the tower, but they would be hidden inside it. The tower will look like a tapered pole. It would be visible from Conrad Court, inside the Tiffany Woods development off Spruce Street, but the monopole design is intended to minimize the visual impact.
The nearest residence in the Tiffany Woods development is about 350 feet away from the base of the proposed tower. But several residents mostly those who live in the Tiffany Woods development have expressed concern that the proposed tower would negatively affect their property values.
