One good reason we live in a small community is to appreciate the closeness such a community brings to us. As volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians, drivers, engineers, auxiliary members and other service volunteers, the people we serve are usually people somehow related to somebody we know.
It is typical for me to get on an ambulance call and someone on board will know the person involved or a relative. Even people new in the community are related through teachers, local contractors, homemakers, retirees and healthcare providers that make up our fire company. It seems everyone is known. This makes it easier to obtain facts regarding the emergency; I think you can understand that. This is a small town and everyone can share in our success as a volunteer group.
Well, our community is celebrating! It would be great for the whole town and township to show up and support our efforts in hosting the Mercer County Fireman’s Parade. It promises to be a spectacular day of excitement in our town, beginning with fireworks, Friday night, Sept. 30. Then the parade begins at noon on Oct. 1. The reason it is located in our town is because of the celebration of the Hopewell Fire Department’s 100th anniversary.
The company has worked five years to put this together. The money for this event has been from fundraising and donations, not tax dollars. (Tax dollars are used for training and equipment only.)
Welcome to the Hopewell Fire Department Centennial Anniversary to be held Oct. 1 at noon on Broad Street in Hopewell Borough. Everyone is welcome and picnicking is advised. Come to town for a FUN day and to see a parade and town party. Look for us; we will be everywhere that day.
