Memorial unveiling

Michael A. Chipowsky,
chairman, Hopewell Valley
9/11 and Emergency Services
Memorial Committee
On Sept. 10, more than 500 gathered inside the Hopewell Township Public Works Facility. The purpose of this gathering was to witness the uncovering of an artifact of steel recovered from the Word Trade Center and to remember all who lost their lives 10 years ago.
As the Hopewell Valley Sept. 11 and Emergency Services Memorial takes shape, this 10-ton steel artifact will serve as a centerpiece of the memorial.
Most of us today still have vivid memories of where we were and what we were doing on Sept. 11, 2001. This will not be the case as the years go by and our generation is replaced by those not yet born on that fateful day. This is why it is so important that memorials, such as Hopewell Valley’s, be built and maintained.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in this ceremony and invite everyone to visit the memorial site as construction continues.
   We must never forget!
