As we all know, the effects of Hurricane Irene have been devastating for many residents in our area.
I have extensively toured my district, which includes many affected areas in both Mercer and Hunterdon counties, in order to determine how to best provide assistance as quickly as possible to those in need. Some families in hard-hit areas were unable to return to their homes, causing uncertainty and delays in their lives.
I urge the affected residents from our area in need of assistance to take advantage of all the resources and aid at their disposal. FEMA aid is now available to residents of Mercer and Hunterdon counties.
Should people need to file applications with FEMA in order to obtain aid packages, the agency may be contacted toll-free on the telephone at 1-800-621-3362 or online at www.disasterassistance.gov.
