WEST WINDSOR Two Trenton men were arrested on Tuesday and charged with attempting to rob the Whole Foods Market on Route 1.
Robert McClain, 43, and Adolph Jordan, 57, were arrested at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Police allege that Mr. McClain walked into the market and asked a cashier for change.
According to a police report, he then lunged over the counter, shoved his hands into the cash drawer and attempted to take money. The cashier is reported to have slammed the cash drawer into his fingers several times until he ran out of the store where Mr. Jordan was waiting in a vehicle.
They were apprehended by police.
Both men are suspected in similar robberies in the Mercer County area.
”A couple of them (robberies) happened at East Windsor and Hamilton. It might have been at several other towns,” said Lt. Robert Garofalo.
He added, “They were wearing the same clothing, the same car and the same situation where they would reach into a cash register for some money.”
Mr. McClain is being held at the Mercer County Correctional Center on $100,000 bail and Mr. Jordan is being held at the center on $50,000 bail.
