Mr. Stavola, 88, of Howell, died Sept. 6, 2011, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born in Sassano, Italy. Mr. Stavola was employed as a management analyst for the Department of the Army, CECOM division, Fort Monmouth. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II in the intelligence section of the 8th Fighter Command of the 8th Army Air Force in London, England, and in Belgium. He was also a participant in the Brookdale Community College Center for War Studies, where he was interviewed for a documentary on World War II. Mr. Stavola was predeceased by two brothers, John and Michael Stavola. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Theresa; four daughters, Annette Hebel and her husband, William, of Port Washington, N.Y., Janet D’Onofrio, and her husband, Louis, of Cromwell, Conn., Susan Newell and her husband, Bill, of Oceanport, and Joanne Scoppettuolo, and her husband, Steve, of Ocean Township; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Rosario Stavola of Massapequa, N.Y.; and a sister, Rose D’Onofrio of Lincroft. A funeral Mass was offered at St. Veronica Catholic Church, Howell, followed by entombment in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.
