Manasquan Savings Bank will host a Shred Day and Food Drive to benefit the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 24 a the Ramtown office, 167 Newtons Corner Road, Howell. All are welcome to bring their mixed office paper, (no magazines or newspapers) to be shredded on-site at Shred Day. All of the shredded material is recycled. Material is limited to two file boxes or 50 pounds. One ton of shredded and recycled paper saves an estimated 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy and 7,000 gallons of water. Nonperishable food donations will be collected for the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Manasquan Savings Bank will continue to make a matching monetary donation to the food bank, so the more food people bring, the more money they will donate.

The National Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) Resource Center partnered with the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) to provide a course about Charcot-Marie- Tooth at its annual meeting, which featured Dr. Hal Ornstein of Affiliated Foot and Ankle, Howell.

Ornstein recently accepted the opportunity to serve as a specialist and adviser for the National CMT Resource Center collaboration between the podiatric specialty and the Hereditary Neuropathy Foundation.

The AANEM holds an annual meeting to provide continuing medical education for its members and others. This year’s meeting took place from Sept. 14-17 in San Francisco. National CMT Resource Center experts presented on relevant topics, including “Podiatry and Patients with CMT” by Ornstein.

Linda Gillick, executive director of Ocean of Love, and Frances Kirschner, president of the public relations firm Frantasy Enterprises, will be honored on Oct. 1 at the 89th anniversary gala of the Strand Center for theArts, Lakewood. Tickets cost $125 per person and will include cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 p.m., recognition of the honorees at 6:30 p.m., and reserved seating for “South Pacific,” presented by Phoenix Productions. Camille Biamonte, executive director of the Strand Center for the Arts, said, “The historic Strand Theater is honoring Linda Gillick and Fran Kirschner because of their continuing focus and work to improve the quality of life of Ocean County and Monmouth County residents by preserving the cultural and performing arts.” Gillick is the co-founder of Ocean of Love, a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to helping Ocean County children with cancer and their families. Kirschner, president of Frantasy Enterprises, has devoted her life to promoting and helping others through her public relations company.
