Carlos Frias – Creation Myth

“Genesis at Sea” “Genesis at Sea” The New Jersey Emerging Artists Series at the Monmouth Museum continues this fall with an exhibition by artist Carlos Frias, of East Bloomfield.

“Creation Myth” will open Sept. 23 and run through Oct. 23. An opening reception will be held 6- 8 p.m. Friday. The artist will share insights on his work in a Gallery Talk discussion at the museum on Wednesday 7 to 8 p.m. Oct. 5. Both events are free and open to the public.

This exhibition features works in mixed media that together form a “spatial creation myth.” Frias explores the theme of “humankind as a microcosm” represented by organic forms suggesting a dynamic and developing history of our species.

Frias states, “My recent works are all part of a larger puzzle that, once completed, will form the series ‘Creation Myth.’ I intend for my artwork to strip us of our spirituality and our culture, representing us as organic forms bound to decompose and regenerate. This series highlights our humanity — our creativity, our relationships, our urge to grow and our ability at times, to self-destruct.”

“Spring Thaw” “Spring Thaw” The New Jersey Emerging Artists Series features six exhibitions held each year and provides a unique and exciting opportunity for New Jersey artists to showcase their work. The artists selected for this series represent the diversity of talent in the state and demonstrate their creativity in a wide variety of media, including drawing, painting, watercolor, pastel, handmade paper, collage, photography, mobile art, clay, mixed-media sculpture and glass art. The Monmouth Museum is located at 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, on the campus of Brookdale Community College.
