LONG BRANCH — Long Branch Council 335 Knights of Columbus invites boys and girls ages 10 through 14 to participate in the local level of competition for the 2011 Soccer Challenge. The local competition will be held 2-5 p.m. Sept. 24 at St. Benedict’s School, 165 Bethany Ave., Holmdel. In the event of inclement weather a rain date will be set.
The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is held annually with winners progressing through local, district and state competitions.
All boys and girls from10 through 14 years of age are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age and sex divisions. Pre-registration is not required. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Each child must provide his or her own transportation. There is no entry fee. The child can leave after completing his or her shooting. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event.
The competition will demonstrate the skill of penalty kicking, with shots at an unprotected goal being taken from the penalty line. Points will be awarded depending upon the area of the scoring zones through which the ball passes. Contact Joseph Meehan at 732-229-3245 for more information.
St. Benedict’s Council is hosting the Soccer Challenge. Rev. Daniel F. Swift, a former pastor at Holy Trinity Church in Long Branch, is currently pastor at St. Benedict’s Church.
