MONROE — The township’s Environmental Commission is seeking vendors for its Green Fair, which will be held at the Oak Tree School on Applegarth Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 1.
The Green Fair, co-sponsored by the commission and the Monroe Township Public Library, is an event where different environmental speakers, vendors and activists share their ideas on the various ways residents can become more environmentally responsible.
“We are building on the momentum we gained last year,” said Shannon Minnihan, environmental commissioner and chairwoman of the Green Fair Committee. “We had more than 2,000 people come to the fair and got to meet one-on-one with some fantastic ecofriendly vendors.”
Minnihan said the Green Fair Committee is eyeing vendors that represent alternative energy sources, hybrid vehicles, and healthful and local foods.
“Last year, one of the car dealers sold a Toyota Prius, so hopefully a dealer will see that with a crowd of 2,000, a lot of people get to see the benefits of a hybrid vehicle,” Minnihan said.
Pop’s Farm Market of Cranbury Station Road is slated to return.
“Pop’s sold so much delicious Jersey fresh foods, some of which were grown right here inMonroe,” Minnihan said.
Middlesex County’s transportation and planning departments, the county Division of Solid Waste, Monroe’s Shade Tree Commission and the Department of Public Works’ Enviro Mobile will be on hand for the event, along with other local, state and regional environmental groups.
Space is limited, and is free to nonprofits. Vendors and for-profit organizations can reserve a space for $35. Vendors are encouraged to bring their own tables, but tables will be available by reservation for $10. Checks should be made payable to the Monroe Township Friends of the Library.
