TheAUF Lady Hawks eighth-grade girls basketball team is seeking competitive players for the 2011 fall season. Tryouts will be held on Sept. 24 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Monroe Sports Center in Monroe, and on Sept. 28 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton YMCA’s Sawmill Branch, located at 185 Sawmill Road, Hamilton. All females entering seventh or eighth grades are eligible. There are no residency requirements. The team will practice one to two times per week at the Monroe Sports Center and will participate in MSC’s fall league, as well as a select number of weekend tournaments. The Sayreville Leprechauns Football and Cheerleading Association will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a picnic and fundraiser 1-6 p.m. Oct. 1 at Burkes Park, Sayreville. The event date was changed due to conflicts with other events in the town. The fee of $10 for kids (ages 5-17) and $15 for adults includes an anniversary mug, food, beverages and activities for all. Beer and wine will be available for $2 per glass. All divisions will have a punt/pass and kicking contest, with prizes awarded to all winners. No outside beverages will be permitted.
