The AUF Lady Hawks eighthgrade girls basketball team is seeking competitive players for the 2011 fall season. Tryouts will be held on Sept. 24 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Monroe Sports Center in Monroe, and on Sept. 28 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Hamilton YMCA’s Sawmill Branch, located at 185 Sawmill Road, Hamilton. All females entering seventh or eighth grades are eligible. There are no residency requirements. The team will practice one to two times per week at the Monroe Sports Center and will participate in MSC’s fall league, as well as a select number of weekend tournaments. Bike New York’s season-ending, 10th annual Twin Lights Ride is expected to have more than 2,000 cyclists pedaling through Monmouth County on Sept. 25.
Highlights of the Twin Lights Ride, presented by the Jamaica Tourist Board, include views of grassy horse farms and woodlands on each route, as well as ocean panoramas on longer routes (75 and 100 miles).
“With a gentle terrain and four mileage options, from 30 to 100, the Twin Lights Ride is a great choice for cyclists of all levels, whether they are planning a fun family outing or a challenging century,” Ken Podziba, President and CEO of Bike New York said in a press release. “We have a lot of fun in store for the 10th anniversary of Twin Lights, one of our most popular regional rides.”
Optional group rides, optional ferry transportation, well-marked routes, fully stocked rest areas (tasty snacks), SAG (support and gear) service, a post-ride festival with live entertainment, fresh, local seafood for sale and free ride T-shirts are also in store for Twin Lights participants.
The ride begins and ends at Huddy Park in Highlands and starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 5:30 a.m.
