SPOTSWOOD — Four local Scouts have risen to the rank of Eagle, the highest honor in Boy Scouting.

Daniel Dwyer, Zachary Riti, Arthur H. Campbell IV and B. Timothy Urbanski, all of Troop 35, were recognized as Eagle Scouts during a Court of Honor Ceremony in August at the Knights of Columbus in Spotswood after successfully completing their Eagle projects.

Dwyer, of Spotswood, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on May 12, 2010. He is a 2010 graduate of Spotswood High School and currently attends The College of New Jersey.

Dwyer’s project entailed renovating the Spotswood High School challenge course, repairing several obstacles that had fallen into disrepair over a period of years. He also cleaned up the entire course, laid mulch, repainted existing signs and created new signs. These improvements helped the course’s aesthetic aspect while also making it safe for future use.

Riti, of Monroe, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Oct. 11, 2010. He is a 2010 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Metuchen and is a student at Purdue University.

Riti’s project included replacing an overgrown garden in front of the convent at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Spotswood. He redesigned the garden, planted flowers, trimmed trees and built a new stone path leading to the statue of the Virgin Mary. The second part of Riti’s project was to strip, prime and repaint the convent’s exterior staircase. Lastly, he removed old aluminum slats from the fence surrounding the convent’s courtyard and replaced them with new vinyl slats.

Campbell, of Spotswood, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on Feb. 15. He is a 2011 graduate of Spotswood High School and is attending Northeastern University in Boston this fall.

Campbell’s project consisted of revitalizing the courtyard at the rear entrance of Spotswood High School to improve its appearance. He cleared all of the broken blacktop from the soil, tilled it, planted shrubs and laid topsoil along both sides of the path leading to the rear entranceway. Next, he built several wooden benches and installed them at the top of the path around a large evergreen tree that he planted.

Urbanski, of Old Bridge, earned the rank of Eagle Scout on March 10. He is a 2011 graduate of St. Joseph High School inMetuchen and is attending Rutgers University this fall.

Urbanski’s project was refurbishing the exterior of Grace Church, formerly Cottrell Corners Community Church, in Old Bridge. He made some needed repairs to the building, replaced some of the rotted wooden boards, and gave the church a new coat of yellow paint so it would stand out from the white buildings on the road. He also weeded the surrounding garden and planted flowers.
