Illusions Salon and Day Spa, 3475 Route 9 north, Freehold Township, in the A&M Shopping Plaza, will be honoring Breast CancerAwareness Month during October with a “Think Pink” fundraising campaign. Owner, Cathy Pry and her Illusions staff invite members of the community to visit the newly updated salon and show support for the cause by wearing a pink hair extension that can be obtained at the salon for $5 each. On Oct. 12 from 4-6 p.m., the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Breast Center in Colts Neck will hold a public open house in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Earlier this year, Monmouth Medical Center opened the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Breast Center at Colts Neck, 310 Route 34 south, second floor, to bring mammography services to Colts Neck and the surrounding communities.

During the open house, members of the public are welcome to stop in to the breast center to walk through the center, meet the staff, and learn more about what they can do to protect themselves from breast cancer. OceanFirst Foundation of Toms River has awarded $26,000 in grants to nine local charities that serve members of the military through its Home Runs for Heroes program. The program, now in its third year, is a partnership between OceanFirst Foundation, WOBM AM-FM and the Lakewood Blue- Claws.

Home Runs for Heroes grants provide financial support to charities that meet the emergency basic needs of veterans and local servicemen and servicewomen – active and retired – and their families during difficult times.

OceanFirst Foundation announced grants to the following organizations: American Recreational Military Services, $1,000; American Red Cross, Jersey Coast Chapter, $3,000; Army Emergency Relief, Fort Dix, $2,000; Catholic Charities (Emergency Services), Diocese of Trenton, $3,000; Lt. Dennis W. Zilinski II Memorial Fund, $3,000; Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society/Lakehurst, $2,000; Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society/Naval Weapons Station Earle, $1,000; New Jersey National Guard State Family Readiness Council, $4,000, and VetGroup, $7,000.

The Hire a Veteran Job Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 in recognition of Veterans Day. Businesses or organizations seeking qualified men and women returning to the work force after serving in the military may rent exhibit tables at the event.

Through the efforts of Toms River dentist Dr. Ron Rotem, Reynolds Marketing, and Greater Media Radio New Jersey, veterans will have an opportunity to seek employment directly from employers, attend employment-related workshops, and find out about personal services available to them in a Veterans Resource Room at the job fair.

The Hire a Veteran Job Fair will be held at the Merri-Makers catering facility at the PNC Bank Reception Center, Exit 116 off the Garden State Parkway, Holmdel. Exhibit tables are available for $200 each to those employers seeking well-qualified men and women in the military who have returned home.

The $200 fee will be donated to the G.I. Go Fund, a nonprofit troop support organization that helps military veterans and their spouses find jobs.
