HOLMDEL — Township residents are encouraged to inform the township clerk of any Holmdel resident serving overseas in the U.S. armed forces.
The township is looking to continue its practice of sending care packages to these soldiers as a reminder that the township misses them.
“My son is a Marine and he was overseas in Iraq in 2006 and 2007. I know how that feels to have someone over there,” Township Clerk Maureen Doloughty said Oct. 7.
Doloughty said that the township’s “adopted” soldier, 1st Lt. Christopher J. Campis, is soon returning home from his service.
In a letter to Doloughty, Campis thanked the township for the care packages.
“My Marines and I have thoroughly enjoyed and used everything you have sent us. It is always a great feeling to return from a mission and have mail waiting for you,” Campis said in the letter.
Doloughty said the township is looking for soldiers to include in the care package program.
“Right now, I’m looking for residents we have over there,” Doloughty said.
“Come the holidays, people donate all kinds of items. That part of it isn’t an issue. I know there are Holmdel residents serving overseas, and I want them to know we’re thinking about them.”
Holmdel residents with this information may contact Doloughty by calling (732) 946- 2820 or by sending an email to [email protected].
