WEST LONG BRANCH — Monmouth University will host the screening of “Miss Representation” 10 – 11:15 a.m. Nov. 8, in Wilson Hall Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. A discussion with the film director, Jennifer Seibel Newsom, will follow after the screening at 1-2:15 p.m.
This award-winning documentary reveals how media perpetuates the idea that a women’s primary value rests in her youth, beauty and sexuality, not in her capacity as a leader. Depicting the under-representation of women in politics, the prevalence of violence against women and the sexualization of young girls, this film leaves audiences shaken and offers a plan for social change, according to a press release from the university.
