St. Benedict School offers free pre-K reading program

HOLMDEL — Beginning Monday, Oct. 26, from 1 to 2 p.m., St. Benedict School in Holmdel will offer a preschool reading program entitled “Reading Rebels.”

The sessions will run for eight weeks and are open to children ages 3- 5 in the local community. Registrations will be on a first come, first served basis. Those interested can email [email protected] and do not need to be a member of St. Benedict School or parish to register.

The classes will be held in the school library and will be moderated by Lori Ulrich.

Jeanne Connell, the school’s librarian and enrichment teacher, said the preschoolers will have story time and a craft and a chance to visit the two kindergarten classes, meet faculty and staff and enjoy some guest storytellers.

“Developing a love of reading and books is so important at this age,” said Connell. “Studies have shown that children that start to read a variety of genre at an early age develop exceptional vocabularies. What a great way to start your child on the road to reading.”
