To the editor:
I am questioning why the Packet ran a political opinion piece on its front page this past Tuesday (“PCDO chairman joins Wall Street marchers”). The story mainly conveys chairman Preston’s political views and support for the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement. Is this person’s opinion really news? If so, why was there no deeper investigation and reporting by the Packet into the notion he expressed about an Occupy Princeton branch of the OWS movement?
Is the Princeton Community Democratic Organization (PCDO) planning to target Princeton University, which as a prestigious Ivy League university has amassed a hugh multi-billion dollar endowment that could be shared with those less fortunate folks who can never hope to attend a school that caters to and advances the ideology of intellectual elitism i.e., the smartest 1 percent? What about the rest of us the 99 percent?
Does PCDO plan to shut down the commercial business activity in the borough through the holidays in solidarity with the OSW movement’s belief that those who have worked hard, the business owners, and achieved success should share the fruits of their labor with others whose work has proved less fruitful just because the OWS movement thinks iti s fair? Why should any of us work if we can live off the sweat and risk others take?
The Packet has a duty to investigate and openly cover this story for the community.
