NBJP Musical Advisor, Rutgers professor and world renowned saxophonist, Ralph Bowen Quartet returns to perform for the New Brunswick Jazz Project, this time with his Soul Proprietor Band. Ralph has been an in demand part of the New York jazz scene for over two decades and his discography of over 60 titles includes collaborations with Michel Camilo, and Horace Silver. Wednesday night the "Soul Proprietor" will be joined by phenomenal guitarist, the acclaimed Mike Moreno. Mike, a Houston native, has played and toured with some of the hottest names in jazz including Joshua Redman, Lizz Wright, Nicholas Payton, Terence Blanchard,Greg Osby 4, Wynton Marsalis and the JALC Orchestra, Kenny Garrett and Ravi Coltrane. “…a versatile and increasingly prominent guitarist,” said the New York Times. Rounding out the band will be Jared Gold on Hammond B-3 and Rudy Royston on drums.
Bassist/vocalist Mimi Jones will take the lead at Makeda on Thursday. Her band will include the eloquent Luis Perdomo on keys, the versatile Camille Thurman on saxes & drum sensation Henry Cole. Mimi opened the Somerville Jazz Festival last month and NBJP is happy to welcome her back to central New Jersey.
