Manalapan High School graduate Cassie Inacio has appeared in every game for the Rutgers University soccer team this season. Inacio, a freshman forward/midfielder, started seven of the Scarlet Knights’ first 15 matches. Rutgers was 7-6-2 beginning the week. The Scarlet Knights will wrap up the 2011 season on Oct. 21 when they host the Seton Hall Pirates in a Big East game at Yurcak Field, Piscataway, that will start at 7 p.m. Inacio has scored one goal and assisted on one goal. At Manalapan High School, Inacio was a fouryear starter. The Braves won the Shore Conference A North Division title in her sophomore year, advanced to the NJSIAACentral Jersey Group IV state sectional championship game in her junior year, and reached the state sectional semifinals in Inacio’s senior year.
The Shore Athletic Club team of Ralph Garfield (Manalapan), David Gross (Marlboro) and Richard Hill (Middletown) won the USATF Masters 5K Championships 70- plus team championship.
The road racing championships were held in Syracuse, N.Y., on Oct. 2. The runners raced over an out-and-back-shaped course.
Gross, running in the 70-74 division, finished fifth (24:49) in his race. In the 75-79 division, Garfield was third (24:13) and Hill was fourth (24:54).
Scoring for the team championships was based on the cumulative finishing time of the three scoring runners. Garfield, Gross and Hill had a cumulative average time of 24:39.
The 13th annual charity golf scramble tournament hosted by the Knights of Columbus Council 6201, Howell-Jackson, will be held on Oct. 28 at Gambler Ridge in Upper Freehold Township. A shotgun start is scheduled for 8 a.m. Proceeds will benefit the council’s food basket program. Details: 732-901-1954.
Kelvin’s Basketball Academy is holding tryouts for its 12-and-under boys AAU basketball team.
