Volunteers will help people prepare taxes

A ARP Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers in Monmouth County to help taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2011 tax returns.

According to a press release, volunteers do not need to be anAARPmember or a retiree to participate, nor do they need prior tax preparation experience.

AARP Tax-Aide volunteers receive free tax training leading to IRS certification and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. They help taxpayers at sites around the county, learning new skills while giving back to their community.

“I have foundAARP Tax-Aide to be one of the most enjoyable volunteer experiences around. It is a pleasure working with a great group of volunteers from all age groups, ranging from recent college grads to retirees who have been doing this for many years,” said Dennis Hartenstine, the AARP Tax- Aide training coordinator for Monmouth County.

Last year, more than 80 Monmouth County AARP Tax-Aide volunteers helped nearly 4,000 Monmouth County taxpayers, according to the press release. They join the 35,000 AARP Tax-Aide volunteers across the country, helping millions of taxpayers each year.
