‘Deep Sea Salvage Operations,’ paintings by Monika McCall

A n exhibit of paintings by Red Bank artist Monika McCall opens Friday at McKay Imaging Studio & Gallery.

“Deep Sea Salvage Operations,” paintings by Monika McCall, will run through Nov. 10 at the gallery, located on the second floor of 12 Monmouth St. in Red Bank.

An opening reception will be held 7-10 p.m. Oct. 21.

According to the gallery, 20 percent of the proceeds of the exhibit will be donated to local ocean advocacy group Clean Ocean Action.

McCall explains the exhibit theme in an artist statement: “The exhibition title comes froma deep sea diving technique called Saturation Diving. This technique allows the diver to live and work at great depths for extended periods of time, using an ideal mixture of gas and a system of pressurized support vessels so the diver can stay compressed while not working.

“This town is my ocean. My studio is the job site. Music is the ideal mixture of gasses that allowed me to dive deep within myself. The support vessels are all of those who kept me compressed while in the process of making a piece of art, which can sometimes take many months. As the paintings near completion, I am safely decompressing. In this dive among many things, I have salvaged my heart.”
