N.B. Girl Scouts earn Silver Award

Girls from Girl Scout Troop 81405 from North Brunswick recently received their SilverAward, the second-highest award that can be achieved in Girl Scouting.

Megan Brewi, Katie Kingsley and Jennifer Salvatore completed their Community Service Project, “Beginning a New Chapter.” The girls reached out to the Girl Scout community as well as their local community to raise awareness of the life struggles some families face, including homelessness and illiteracy. The girls held various fundraisers and received hundreds of books. They held a story-time event, a movie event and Girl Scout meetings, and brought awareness to Our Lady of Peace Church parishioners. They built two bookcases with the help of Brian Kingsley.

The girls donated the GED books, hundreds of other books for all ages and a monetary donation to Amandla’s Crossing, a homeless shelter in Edison. Co-leaders Maureen Brewi and Michelle Salvatore assisted the girls with the project.
